Mike Harmon
Mike has been carving for over 15 years. Primarily working on people studies - caricatures, busts,
Santas, wizards, etc. Mike received most of his early carving experience while living in Nebraska and
Colorado. He has won blue ribbons at shows in Denver, Omaha, Topeka, Sioux City, Waterloo, and
more recently at the North surban Carvers' show in Wheaton. Currently you can see some of his work
on display at the Geneva Historical Museum's Gift Shop in downtown Geneva. His style is primarily
realistic using gouges and a natural finish or stain although the subject matter varies. He has taught
Indians, frontiersmen, female faces, nudes and of course, Santas.
He was with us in 2006 & 2007, teaching a Friday class in butternut of a female torso. His classes are
intermediate to advanced with plenty of discussion about design and structure, not just technique.
Mike currently resides in Geneva, Ill. with his toughest critics - wife, Lisa and son, Alex. Bring knives,
gouges and lots of energy as his classes are always full and ambitious.

Will be doing a relief basket of frut,will take 10 add will cost $25.00
Harmon on Hands - Mike will take a difficult carving subject and complicate it beyond recognition for
you. Bring sharp tools, both gouges and knives, and at least one of your own hands as a model.
We will have various options as you learn to break down the anatomy in the hand and learn how to
carve realistic looking appendages, digits, fists and things.
Nude Torso - Okay so some of you really wanted to get your hands on an attractive piece of
butternut, but didn't know how to introduce yourself to the subject. If you have been to GOW in
recent years, you've seen the project. A beautiful piece of butternut, a lot of work with sharp gouges
and a piece that will make you the envy of the neighborhood. Not for beginners, but if we get enough
interest, Mike will lead you down the path to a nicely stylized nude torso. Hope to have a male option
as well as the female one.
