Class: shorebird
For the GOW I plan to teach how to carve and paint a shorebird, a miniature Atlantic Puffin or a
miniature great blue heron. Some carvers may prefer to carve crossed primary feathers, others will
not. I will have blanks for both styles available. I will teach all four days of the program, the first and
third day will be devoted to carving and the second and fourth day to painting. My painting style
involves the application of multiple coats of thin washes of acrylic paint.
Blanks will cost from $15 to $18 each. If a student wishes to just learn to paint, I will have blanks
available that I have carved at a cost of $35 to $45 each. I encourage carvers from beginning level
to advanced to take my classes.
Maximum size of my classes will be 12 students per day.

He is a teacher and guidance counselor by
profession. Jacks professional skills inspire
his endeavors as a woodcarving instructor.
Teaching is a labor of love for him and he
derives huge personal satisfaction from
working with his students. Many of them return
to him year after year - a fact of which he is
proud because he believes that it shows that
they enjoy his teaching techniques and
personal style.
