Rating notes for Burton Branch Park Pics
Pickwick Landing State Park
We actually camped at Burton Branch Park, a remote campground that is a part of Pickwick Landing.  This was a mistake.  I headed for this area from a recommendation of a book that I have without first checking out the campsites within Pickwick itself.  The sites at Burton Branch are very close together and offer little or no understory for privacy.  However, some of the sites are directly on the water so this is a major plus. My rating is based on Burton Branch, not Pickwick. The Pickwick main park campgrounds were very nicely wooded but offered no water views. So you have to decide what is you main interest for camping in this area.
One nice discovery, TVA runs a very nice and clean campground at the base of the Pickwick Dam.  Be sure to check this site before deciding where to set-up camp.
Pickwick Landing was a riverboat stop dating from the 1840’s. In the 1930’s, during the depression, the site was chosen for one of the Tennessee Valley Authority's dams on the Tennessee River. What today comprises the park was once the living area for the TVA construction crews and their families. The property passed from TVA to the Tennessee State Park system in the early 1970’s.
