Huntsville, AL
Monte Sano is a jewel of a park tucked away atop a mountain just 8 minutes from downtown Huntsville.  The understory is very good on most sites.  Even though the park is so close to Huntsville, it is extremely quiet because the park is located on the east side of the mountain and Huntsville is on the west side.
Trails reveal gorgeous views of the Tennessee River Valley and diverse wildlife, including numerous migratory songbirds. A stretch of parkway now closed to vehicles offers scenic touring for the wheelchair-bound and others.
There is primitive camping at Monte Sano and 89 developed campsites. Fourteen rustic cottages near a cliff overlook the valley.
Entrance sign to the park. Monte Sano overlook facing northeast. The road through the campsites.

Tall thick trees provided very good shade. My site tucked in away from the road. All set-up and awaiting nightfall.
