Goreville, IL
Ferne Clyffe has a campground for every type of camper:
modern, primitive, youth groups, backpack or equestrian.  The
shower facilities that are offered at some campgrounds are
available seasonally.  Call head if you are interested in the
equestrian sites.

Angela and I fell in love with this campground the minute we
discovered the small lake.  We arrived as the sun was setting,
and with it being early fall, the colors were absolutely beautiful.
The pictures below do not give it justice.

The sites are very nice and most are level and easy to back into.
The fire-rings were at varying distances from the camper pad,
but not enough to be that big of a distraction.  Water spigots
were scattered through the grounds.  Although you are not
supposed to permanently hook-up to them, I did see a few
campers with long water hoses and multiple plugs.

The primitive sites looked extremely, well, primitive.  But I
mean that in the best of terms.  They have a ton of undercover
and are nicely separated.  You cannot back you car up to the
sites, but the parking location is not that far.  I have to admit
they looked like some of the best primitive sites I have ever
seen.

I would highly recommend Ferne Clyffe as a great place to stay.
We camped there on our return home from the
GOW and plan to
make it one of our regular campsites in future trips through IL.
If you are looking for a home-cooked meal, there is a very nice
family restaurant located in Goreville.

The pictures below were snapped during our stay in early Oct.
2009.  Hope you enjoy the pictures.
