Dedicated in May, 1959, in honor of one of Tennessee's most famous
native sons, David Crockett State Park is located on U.S. Highway 64
in Lawrence County, one-half mile west of the city of Lawrenceburg.
I have to say I was extremely disappointed with the closeness of the
sites. There was little or no understory between sites. I camped at
campground 1 which is located next to Shoal Creek and I was able to
get right on the banks. Campground 2 is geared more for the big
rigs and most of the sites have very steep side drop-offs from the
main pad.
I came during a very busy time of the year for this park. It happen
to be David Crockett Day's and the campground was nearly full.
Families everywhere. Kids with bikes, parents with dogs, and
bubba's with trucks. Which made for a little more noise than I
prefer. However, I have to give the parents credit, at 10pm it got
quite and I did not hear any noice all night.
If you are looking for a campground to "get away from it all", David
Crockett is not the place. However, if you are looking for a very
nice family environment where kids can mingle and play with other
kids, then this is the place to come.
